I am Tina Gallucci, a proactive leader with a forward-thinking approach, dedicated to fostering a collaborative and goal-oriented environment. With a strong background in data-driven decision-making, I ensure that my choices align with strategic objectives. I hold a Master of School Administration from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Elementary Education from North Carolina Wesleyan College. My certifications include a North Carolina Educator’s License in School Administration and Mathematics. Over the past 23 years in education, I have been recognized with several awards, including Teacher of the Year and multiple Employee Excellence Awards. My extensive leadership experience includes roles such as Senior Administrator for both Elementary and Middle School Mathematics in Wake County Public Schools, where I have successfully planned and implemented curriculum development, professional development, and instructional reform initiatives.
I am Chavaleh Nophsker. After completing a Master's degree in Hispanic Literature, I earned my license as a bilingual elementary educator in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 2006, I returned home to Dare County, North Carolina and taught third and fourth grade at First Flight Elementary for 16 years. I am currently an instructional coach and District Math Lead in Currituck County Schools. I am passionate about mathematics instruction, incorporating movement in the classroom, and equity for Multilingual Learners. As a National Board Certified Teacher, I am currently co-leading our district's first Beginning Teacher to National Board Certified Teacher cohort. I have attended NCCTM Regional Conferences in order to deepen my math knowledge and better my teaching practices. I am an enthusiastic advocate for bringing the Eastern Region to all that NCCTM offers as we can sometimes feel isolated.
I am Rebecca Chapman. With 11 years of experience teaching high school math, I have developed a deep expertise in mathematical instruction and student engagement. I spent the last 2 years as a Middle School Math Instructional Coach in Brunswick County, where I focused on improving teaching practices and supporting educators. During this time, I have worked closely with all of BCS Math Teachers to implement grade level appropriate curriculum while creating an understanding of the mathematical vertical progression. Additionally, I worked with the Middle School Math 1 teachers to help enrich our Advanced students. Our MS Math 1 students have had multiple placements in the Regional and State Math competitions for the last two years. I hold an undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University in Mathematics Secondary Education, a Master’s from UNC Charlotte in Mathematics Secondary Education, and am currently working on my Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction from Gardner-Webb University. I have earned a certificate in Administration & Leadership from Gardner-Webb. In the last two years, I have earned the K-5 Math Badge through NCCAT and certification as a Foundations of Math State trainer.
Lori Sugg is currently an enthusiastic 8th grade math teacher at Grover C. Fields Middle School in New Bern, NC. Lori has been an educator for 20 years. She has taught elementary math, middle grades math, and has also taught math at the community college level. In 2017 she was named Craven County Schools Teacher of the Year. She has also been nominated for the NCCTM Math Educator of the Year. Most recently she has been named a Secondary Math Learning Leader through NCCAT. She also helps to lead the Teacher Advisory Council for Craven County Schools. She enjoys making math relevant, engaging, and fun for her students which has resulted in high proficiency and her math scores exceeding growth yearly. Lori has been a member of the NCCTM, and will be doing her first presentation at the state conference this fall. She is running for the Vice President position of Middle Grades for the Eastern Region of North Carolina. She hopes to promote and continue the work of NCCTM by empowering educators with the best teaching practices and recent developments in math instruction if elected to this position.
Haley Harrison-Jones is currently an assistant principal at Millbrook Magnet High School in Wake County, North Carolina. In this role, Haley supports the math department and their Professional Learning Community (PLC) work, helping to foster collaboration and growth. Prior to becoming an assistant principal, Haley taught mathematics for nine years at both the middle and high school levels. During this time, she also served as the math department chair at Wakefield High School for three years.
With a bachelor's degree in middle school math education from East Carolina University and a master's degree in secondary math education from North Carolina State University, Haley has dedicated her career to advancing mathematics education. A key highlight of her work in the Wake County Public School System has been engagement with the MVP/Open Up Math curriculum, through which Haley has led professional development sessions at the county level. These sessions have focused on enhancing questioning strategies, integrating the 5 mathematical practices, effective scaffolding techniques, and facilitating rich mathematical discussions using math language routines. As an advocate for continuous learning and teacher support, Haley is honored to be considered for the role of High School Vice President for the Eastern Region of the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM). This role would provide her with the opportunity to continue contributing to the broader mathematics community in North Carolina.
Hello, my name is Rachelle Williams. I am currently a math teacher at Wilson Academy of Applied Technology Early College High School with 12 years of experience. My husband and I have 2 beautiful children, a son and a daughter, both attending school in the district where I work. As my school’s Teacher of the Year, I strive to inspire and motivate my students and co-workers to reach their full potential, fostering a positive and productive teaching and learning environment. I am passionate about NCCTM and believe strongly in the organization’s vision of providing support to current and future teachers so that all students will have access to a high quality education. I am eager to contribute my expertise and collaborative spirit with the teachers of NC and am committed to the organization’s continued success.
Shelby Morge is a professor of mathematics education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She received her Bachelor of Arts in mathematics education with a minor in computer science from Indiana State University. She taught middle school and high school mathematics in Indiana. Shelby returned to school to complete her Masters and Ph.D. in mathematics education with a minor in mathematics from Indiana University. After graduation, she moved to Wilmington for her position at UNCW. Since arriving in North Carolina, Shelby has been involved in mathematics education at the state level. She taught courses for the NC-PIMS program, was a member of the development team for the NC Elementary Mathematics Add-On License and has been involved in other state-wide grants and initiatives such as NC-NAEP and the NC2ML Visions project. Shelby has served on the NCCTM Board as the Eastern Region College Vice President and State College Vice President. At UNCW, she teaches courses for middle grades and secondary preservice teachers and elementary education graduate students. Shelby has been involved in several local professional development initiatives, leading workshops for teachers in Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Lenoir, New Hanover, Onslow, and Pender Counties. She also has co-written several grants to provide professional development support for local teachers. Shelby looks forward to the opportunity to continue her collaboration with mathematics educators across the Eastern Region of North Carolina as Vice President of Colleges/Universities. She would be honored to serve and learn alongside NCCTM members and continue to support the important work of mathematics educators in North Carolina.
Tina Starling received her Ph.D. in mathematics education from NC State University. With over 20 years of experience, her teaching career has included appointments at the high school, community college, and university levels. Currently, Tina is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Meredith College in Raleigh, where she enjoys teaching Calculus, Statistics, and Math content courses for K-12 licensure students. Her teaching and research interests include the ways in which students’ understanding of mathematics and statistics may be deepened through the use of discourse and technology. Beyond her work at Meredith, Tina enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending sporting events, and watching old episodes of Gilmore Girls for the one hundredth time.
